Gynecomastia is a condition of enlarged or overdeveloped breasts in men that may occur at any age. The male breast tissue swells due to increased levels of estrogen, which are female hormones, or reduced levels of testosterone, which are male hormones. Gynecomastia usually resolves itself as levels of hormones return to normal. In other cases, surgery, in which we flatten and enhance the chest contour, would be required to reduce breast size in men.
Surgery can be done in several methods such as liposuction, ultrasonic, and direct excision. Dr. Herman’s approach is somewhat unique, in that he also removes the gland in the area, raising the likelihood of success.
Gynecomastia can be a cause of emotional discomfort and have negative effects on self-confidence. With surgery, our patients have been extremely grateful for the results they’ve seen.
